Position Summary

Beth Tikvah Congregation in Hoffman Estates, IL is seeking a Director of Congregational Learning who is kind, enthusiastic and dedicated to Jewish lifelong learning. The Director of Congregational Learning (DoCL) will help create vibrant, meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for congregants of all ages and will inspire and connect our children and families, build community, foster relationships and expand excitement for Judaism and community to our congregation. The DoCL will work in partnership with Beth Tikvah Congregation (BTC) clergy, the Religious School Committee, the BTC Board of Directors, and staff. The DoCL reports to the Congregational Rabbi and works in collaboration with the Vice President of Education and Religious School Committee Chair(s).

Areas of Responsibility

The Director of Congregational Learning will be responsible for the BTC Religious School, youth activities, and lifelong learning opportunities.

Nurture Beth Tikvah Congregation’s knowledge and joy for Judaism, positive Jewish identity, and students who care about one another-Jewish values and Tikkun Olam

Collaborate with Temple clergy, staff, and lay leaders to support and enhance the fulfillment of BTC’s vision, mission and priorities

Develop, implement, and supervise Beth Tikvah’s Religious School, youth programming, and lifelong learning

Encourage recruitment, enrollment and retention of students in the school

Communicate and positively interact with parents regularly

Recruit, hire, evaluate, mentor, inspire, train, retain, and advocate for teachers, school volunteers, teen madrichim assistants and substitute teachers

Select, develop, review and modify the school curriculum to reflect the needs of students, and the values of Reform Judaism

Oversee annual congregational education calendar, scheduling of classes and activities

Design or oversee special programs such as family and grade level education programs, class Shabbat services and dinners, youth group activities, and occasional weekend retreat programs

Maintain and adapt school safety and security, well-being, classroom management and attendance policies and procedures and manage support staff for Religious School

Prepare and manage the annual budget for the school and work with temple administrator on payroll, reimbursements, and accounts receivable/payable for the School

Create a variety of opportunities to address the differing needs of children and families during the early childhood years through congregational activities

Serve as staff liaison to the Youth, Religious School, and Adult Education Committees

Inventory and order school supplies, texts and materials as needed

Establish opportunities for Religious School parents to connect with one another and classmates to form bonds outside of Religious School

Identify and cultivate new leaders within the community through their involvement in educational activities

Work with clergy and lay leaders to determine and plan lifelong learning offerings

Qualifications:

Warm, engaging, caring, and skilled at interpersonal relations

Flexible, pragmatic, analytical, and organized, with a collaborative leadership style

Degree in education, Judaic studies, and/or related field preferred

Demonstrated excellence in managing an educational program, preferably Religious or Hebrew School

Intelligent, energetic, and knowledgeable about matters relating to Jewish education, and creative in programming

Microsoft Office or Google Suite proficient and knowledgeable about the uses and application of educational technology

Excellent written and oral communication skills
